| Joint Venture Sponsorship of MS I-Day Event 2009 |
 |
 |
The Mississippi Magnolia Chapter of the CPCU Society in conjunction with with the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters sponsored the Mississippi I-Day event on September 24, 2009. Mississippi I-Day is our state's premier insurance education promotion and training day. Jeff McGee (right), our chapter Vice President, exhibited all day at the event, pictured here with Chapter President Donna Rademacher (center) and past president Mark Mays (left). Our chapter provided education promotion materials, specialty items, and encouragement to over 150 college insurance majors from three major Mississippi universities and to over 200 insurance professionals at the event. We promoted chapter visibility, connected with local insurance employers and with insurance education providers, as well as the young professionals of the future in these students. We had fun, too! :)

I am pleased to announce that the Mississippi Magnolia Chapter has qualified for the 2009-2010 CPCU Society Circle of Excellence. Your chapter has achieved the Gold level of recognition in this comprehensive program. Congratulations!
Thank you for your dedication of time and talent this past year. Please extend our congratulations to your leadership team and all chapter members who planned and participated in your many activities during the year.
In August, your chapter’s 2009-2010 Gold Circle will be mailed to your 2010-2011 chapter president. | Mississippi Magnolia welcomes former East MS Chapter Members |
 |
 |
We are supposed to add value to Society members, right? Mississippi Magnolia found a way to reach out to its struggling neighbor chapter, with an effective merger. We welcome former members of the East MS Chapter!
Fifteen dues-paying CPCU Society members were part of a dormant chapter that had not met in over three years (East Mississippi). Then-president of Mississippi Magnolia Chapter W. Mark Mays, CPCU met with Society governor Dave Medvidofsky at the annual meeting in Philadelphia in September of 2008 to discuss the current status and share ideas on how to best serve these Society members with a basically inactive chapter. Dave worked with former chapter leaders of East Mississippi and current chapter leaders of the nearby Mississippi Magnolia Chapter to work on a resolution of the problem. Mississippi Magnolia wanted to encourage merging in order to provide vibrant chapter support to these un-served society members. After some great ideas and some basic negotiations, ultimately The CPCU Society settled upon closure of the East Mississippi chapter by vote of the board in 2009, with the understanding of a commitment to personal outreach by Mississippi Magnolia leaders to encourage participation and connection.
“We have already had one member join us for a chapter meeting luncheon and are currently planning two visits to Meridian, MS to personally invite former members of East MS to become actively involved in their new chapter,” said chapter officer, past-president Mays. “All we wanted in this is to provide the same wonderful chapter membership experience we enjoy to some Society members who have not felt that in a while. We love our chapter and are grateful for the opportunity to share this with East Mississippi CPCU’s.”

| Why CPCU? |
 |
 |
Set Yourself Apart
Nothing compares to the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®) professional designation. Nothing. CPCU is recognized and respected as the premier designation in property-casualty insurance. And the CPCU designation after your name speaks volumes about you and your insurance knowledge.
In becoming a CPCU, you will:
- Gain in-depth, broad-based knowledge in risk management and insurance.
- Learn practical skills that you can put to work immediately.
- Learn how to make better decisions on the job.
- Distinguish yourself from your peers while demonstrating your commitment to professionalism.
- Earn the respect accorded those who hold the designation.
The CPCU curriculum balances practical skills with insurance and risk management theory. By learning the why and not simply the what, you will have a better understanding of the p-c business and will be able to make better business decisions.
There are more than 65,000 CPCU designation holders. They are insurance professionals just like you. They are claim adjusters, underwriters, risk managers, brokers, agents, regulators, consultants, attorneys, and educators.
As a CPCU candidate, you will learn about the financial, legal, operational, and technical aspects of risk management and insurance. You can even choose either a personal or commercial insurance concentration, depending on your professional background and needs.
You set the pace for your CPCU study, but we will help you get there with resources including:
- Study materials developed by industry experts
- Our exclusive SMART study aids to help you learn more efficiently
- Institutes Online classes for all CPCU courses
- Convenient testing windows so you can study throughout the year
- Listings of public CPCU classes around the country
Like anything that is worth doing, earning the CPCU designation requires commitment and it is a commitment well worth making. Not sure? Just ask Mike Mee, CPCU, AU, AIM, ARM, AIC, a senior insurance risk analyst:
“I can’t say enough good things about the CPCU designation because it has played a crucial role in my career advancement.”
Get started today.
